Today, officials celebrated the beginning of the second phase of the Film Works L.A.TM public education and marketing campaign. In the second phase, Film Works will shift its focus toward educating local communities about the economic, civic, and cultural importance of filming to the Los Angeles region. Campaign organizers marked the turning point this morning with the first screening of a Film Works public service announcement at Los Angeles City Hall.

Officials from FilmL.A., Inc. today launched “Film Works” -- a stakeholder-driven marketing campaign designed to promote filming in Los Angeles. Conceived and supported by a growing coalition of entertainment industry, community and government partners, the Film Works campaign will remind Angelenos of the economic and cultural benefits the L.A. region receives from local filming, while highlighting the challenges local businesses face as a result of runaway production.

Film Works L.A., the marketing campaign designed to make local communities more amenable to hosting productions, has unveiled its first public service announcement. Viewable at filmworksla.com, the spot titled "Let's Keep it Here" features "Wayne's World" star Tia Carrere enumerating the economic advantages of filming in local neighborhoods as she walks down Agnes Avenue in Studio City, which is awash in production activity.

It looked like any other film shoot in Los Angeles. About 70 cast and crew members converged on a neighborhood in Studio City last week. Only this wasn't just any ordinary film production. The actors, crew members and vendors were there as volunteers, donating their services to produce a short public service announcement touting the economic benefits of filming in L.A.

Tia Carrere is helping to promote filming in Los Angeles and California. The thesp shot a pair of short public service spots Tuesday on Agnes Avenue, a quiet residential street in Studio City, for the Film Works campaign for Los Angeles and the Shoot Movies in California campaign for the state.
